Letters: Antisemitism and anti-intellectualism

Michael Gove said. "To suggest that anti-Semitism can never explain, rather than condemning, insensitive and downright strange" (Gove attack requiring review "explanation" of anti-Semitism, May 26)

And how strange is that? Do Gove believes that irrational behavior can not be explained? Thus, not only as psychiatry and psychotherapy, but also large parts of the history, sociology and literature, even visionary. Or is it that you swallow the illusion deterministic behavior is explained if the agent is not responsible for this? So there can be no such thing as a rational and responsible behavior, but explainable? As if the responsibility and rationality, or failure, has never been able to explain this behavior? Do you choose to forget that there are such things as reasons quite bad, which can explain the behavior yet, though.
If you really want to take the attitudes and immoral behavior seriously, do your best to help eradicate. Condemnation is necessary, but to stop it is only a moral point of view. And you can not do something as a social evil, unless you understand it. Gove is very convenient position for a government indifferent to the intervention of a minister and desperately wanting to attack educators, contrary to what is considered the reason and responsibility.

There is a lot of literature, thanks to God, who tries to explain anti-Semitism, precisely because it is unforgivable. Many of those who have contributed much to the "explanation" of anti-Semitism are Jews themselves, which is not surprising.

. Anti-Semitism must be explained, it is not the same as justified, so that future generations can understand the causes and effects. A chapter of my novel Grosse Fugue rid of these answers anti-intellectual disaster that has befallen us, and I think we have the right to expect more of the person in charge of our system education. Maybe you should stick to their ideological crusade to break the public education system - for which, no doubt, history will judge him with opprobrium only

. It is depressing to know that the Minister of Education does not appreciate the difference between explanation and justification. It also seems to crush the spirit of research among students and deny them the opportunity to learn from history. Why I do not understand why my grandparents were murdered by the Third Reich?
