Journalistic death toll in Putin's Russia

Peter Preston in the Observer today, the catalogs of the deaths of journalists in Russia over the last twelve since Vladimir Putin came to power.

Reading it is dark, but it deserves repetition by journalists as much outside Russia as often as possible:

"In 2011, three journalists killed (including newspapers Khadzhimurad Kamalov publisher, from 14 times as he left his office).

In 2010, two deaths, in 2009, five more (including a young journalist with Novaya Gazeta, caught in a hail of bullets). Add four for 2008, one in 2007 and 2006, Anna Politkovskaya, the most famous victim of all of them is killed.


Preston concludes: "? ... Is elected again and again, however, press freedom seems to mean little to him, unfortunately, you find the point to die unavenged"
