Michigan tornadoes wreck more than 100 homes in overnight storm

No deaths or serious injuries reported as storms with winds of 135 mph in neighborhoods ravaged village of Dexter, Michigan

A solitary hand pulled from the rubble of a destroyed home during a tornado ripped through a city in Michigan, leaving more than 100 houses to pieces.

The first officer on the scene, Deputy Sheriff of Washtenaw County Ray Yee, entered and left an old man who was shaken, but able to walk.

"This is the best part," said Yee. "Every place we went, I would have thought I had found someone there -. Dead or whatever, but , touch wood, everyone was nice. "

initial estimates indicate that the tornado that hit Dexter, northwest of Ann Arbor, was Thursday night with winds around 135 mph, National Weather Service, Steven Freitag said Friday. He said he was on the ground about half an hour and a road crashed about 10 miles long.

The storm, which flooded roads and trees shaken, was part of a slow movement of packing large hail, heavy rain and strong winds. Gusts downed power lines, causing fires.

Sheriff spokesman Derrick Jackson said 105 homes were damaged significantly in two areas of the city and surrounding area greatly affected, and 13 were destroyed. The crews were assessing the damage Friday.

"We are confident that we will not miss anyone right now" Dexter Fire Chief Loren Yates said Friday morning.

In Dexter, the majority of people whose houses were damaged stayed with friends or relatives or in hotels, said Yates. He said he was "incredible" that there were no serious injuries or deaths were reported. He attributes the warnings issued before the tornado.

On Friday, Gov. Rick Snyder expressed his gratitude for the local and state authorities responded quickly to storms. State Troopers assisted local authorities, his office said, but have yet to state requests for emergency assistance.

About two dozen homes

Huron Farms neighborhood "are almost uninhabitable," resident Sharon Carty. "A house, the entire front of the house is gone. People whose homes have been affected are quite amazing. We have tornadoes here too. "

When they came, they saw a lot of damage at first and thought the storm had spared the region. But a look across the street reveals a different reality. A self-service laundry flat car was one of the damaged structures
