Saleh, who has returned to Sana'a on Friday, was transferred to Saudi Arabia in June for emergency treatment after the explosion of a bomb that destroyed the mosque in his presidential compound. His long stay in Riyadh gave false hope to some that he could resign and allow a peaceful transition of power.
