Lepton-Photon, and some hadrons, in Mumbai | Jon Butterworth | Life & Physics

I have, over time, I got my visa, my shots and my plane ticket, so I'm going to Mumbai to particle physics Lepton Photon conference.

I travel a lot, like a particle physicist, but I'm not traveling. At present, most are travel to and from Geneva, but even before the Large Hadron Collider at CERN as semi-regular trip that induces mostly remained in Europe, with the occasional trip to the America north of Japan. Basically, the bits of the richest and most industrialized of the world, I guess. Perhaps not so surprising. Even I would not put the major particle physics facilities in the top of the wish list in the early development of an economy.

words, the particle physics soon. The activity has many economic advantages and is an essential part of any national research infrastructure that seeks to answer the big questions about the nature of where they live.

addition, the question of need is very collaborative. As Rolf Heuer, CERN Director General said in his closing speech at the meeting of the European Physical Society, electronics at CERN now means "all" not only in Europe. To be on the border of the energy at the time, everyone will at CERN (for now). And to continue to do science in this border in the future will require global cooperation.

India is part of this for a long time, of course. In fact, as noted in a recent letter to The Guardian, the famous Indian physicist Satyendra Nath Bose gave his name to the generic class of particles with angular momentum over - bosons - the Higgs boson is a hypothetical example again, but the W and Z bosons (and photon) are well established. See this post for more on this point.

Tata Institute in Bombay has a long history of involvement in the basic sciences. In fact, many of my friends and colleagues have visited or worked there, and I have collaborated with scientists from the Institute for many years, but they've never visited. This year's conference welcomes Lepton Photon. Hence my visa and vaccines, and a sudden realization that I was blasting within a cocoon of most of the time.

get the visa was not too hard, except that I have only one passport and use it every week, so delivery to the High Commission of India for a few days was a bit of a problem. I have not had a shot and was in school, but I

bold , the nurse at the Royal Free said. I do not need pills against malaria, which was a relief.
